Everything you need to get started with Kast

Getting Started

Kast allows you to stream any application window from your Windows, macOS, or Linux computer to any device. This guide will help you get up and running in minutes.

System Requirements

Host Computer

  • Windows 10/11, macOS 11+, or Linux (X11/Wayland)
  • 4GB RAM minimum
  • Dual-core CPU
  • Internet connection (5 Mbps+ recommended)

Client Device

  • iOS 14+, Android 8+, or modern web browser
  • WiFi or cellular connection
  • Touch screen for gesture support

Installation

Windows

Download the Windows installer from our downloads page and run the setup wizard. The daemon will install and start automatically on system boot.

macOS

Install via Homebrew:

brew install kast

Or download the DMG installer from our downloads page.

Linux

Use our installation script:

curl -fsSL https://trykast.com/install.sh | sh

Supports Ubuntu 20.04+, Debian 11+, Fedora 35+, and Arch Linux.

First Connection

  1. Start the daemon - After installation, the Kast daemon runs in your system tray
  2. Sign in - Click the tray icon and sign in with your Kast account
  3. Open the client - Launch the Kast app on your mobile device or visit app.trykast.com
  4. Connect - Your host computer will appear in the device list. Tap to connect
  5. Select a window - Choose which application window to stream

Touch Controls

Basic Gestures

  • Tap - Left click
  • Long press - Right click
  • Two-finger tap - Right click
  • Swipe - Scroll

Advanced Gestures

  • Pinch - Zoom in/out
  • Two-finger swipe - Pan view
  • Three-finger tap - Show keyboard
  • Double tap + hold - Drag

Port Forwarding

Access localhost services on your host computer from your mobile device. Perfect for:

  • Testing web applications on real devices
  • Accessing development servers remotely
  • Debugging APIs from mobile

Configure port forwarding in the daemon settings. Forwarded ports will be accessible at localhost:PORT on your client device while connected.

Troubleshooting

Connection Issues

  • Check firewall settings - Ensure Kast is allowed through your firewall
  • Verify network - Both devices should have internet access
  • Restart the daemon - Right-click the tray icon and select "Restart"

Performance Issues

  • Lower quality settings - Reduce resolution in client settings
  • Check bandwidth - 5 Mbps minimum for 720p, 15 Mbps for 1080p
  • Use wired connection - Ethernet provides more stable streaming
